YoungPEx
Welcome to the YoungPEx committee
The NumPEx program brings together an ambitious scientific community focused on high-performance computing and open science. To strengthen collective momentum, it is essential to give a voice to young researchers: interns, doctoral students, postdocs, young contract and permanent staff. YoungPEx was created to address this challenge by building a cross-disciplinary network across the programme’s components.
Its objective: to stimulate exchanges, create synergies and prepare future collaborations!
The YoungPEx committee is already organising itself as a real creative laboratory. Its members aim to propose original initiatives to the programme’s management:
- Dedicated actions during general meetings
- Thematic seminars
- Welcome and integration measures for new members
- Training, communication and career reflection opportunities.
A first concrete milestone has been reached: the launch of a Discord server that provides a space for instant communication and encourages networking among young talents as soon as they arrive.
With YoungPEx, NumPEx has equipped itself with a strategic tool to strengthen the cohesion, attractiveness and visibility of its young researchers. Our next step? To roll out strong collective actions to consolidate this community and place the new generation at the heart of the NumPEx dynamic.
Milestones
- March 2025 YoungPEx introduced at the first NumPEx General Assembly → Inria Saclay, France Presented to the entire PEPR community, with one of its first workshops
- September 2025 A YoungPEx voice in the field → PhD student Mathis Certenais on interdisciplinarity, energy efficiency and responsible research
- 12–14 November 2025 First YoungPEx General Assembly → ENSEEIHT, Toulouse Three days on the environmental impact of HPC and social and gender equality
Themes
- Environmental impact of HPC→ Sustainable computing workshop led by Georges Da Costa (University of Toulouse, Exa-SofT member) and energy measurements on Grid’5000 at the first General Assembly.
- Social and gender equality→ Sessions on equality and equity in science at the first General Assembly, including a round table on retaining women in research careers.
- Interdisciplinarity and responsible research→ Cross-disciplinary reflections carried by YoungPEx members in their daily research practice.
“Within YoungPEx, we are working in particular on topics such as energy footprints, how to conduct research in an environmentally responsible manner, and multidisciplinarity in the context of scientific research.”
— Mathis Certenais, PhD student, IRISA
